Adam D'Onofrio and Tina Treece saw the flycatcher just a few minutes ago at the
same location it has been.

The Fork-tailed Flycatcher is actively feeding (sallys upward mainly) on
dragonflies on the powerlines immediately adjacent to the intersection that
Arun posted. This area has a field (fallow rye?) immediately to the south and
fields of soybean, I believe to the north. There is one fairly large Loblolly
Pine at the intersection (northeast corner). However, there are no road signs
at this intersection.
From Frank's Truck Stop on South Military Highway (Route 13) at Bower's
Hill, go east on S. Military Hwy. Turn right after about 0.2 miles (before
the interstate overpass) and continue to follow S. Military Hwy. Take the
next right onto Homestead Road. Travel about 1 mile to the T-intersection
with Peach Road. Turn left and travel about 0.3 miles to the next
intersection. This is Hertz and Peach. A pair of Dickcissel is here too.
I was out there looking for the Dickcissel reported by Bill Keith earlier and
happened upon the flycatcher. I believe the flycatcher is a young bird. It
has a bit of gold on the forehead and brownish wings and tail (the fork is
looking ragged). A gray back, white throat and belly, and black cap that
extends to the nape and cheeks was also seen well. It looks like a long
tailed Eastern Kingbird to me. Thanks to David Hughes for verifying the bird
for me. I forgot my birdbook! I did get some pictures (as did David).
Thank you to Arun Bose for posting the sighting and to Bill Keith for
reporting the Dickcissel that got me out there in the first place.
The flycatcher is a lifer for me and the Dickcissels are state birds for me.
Never seen a female Dickcissel before either.
