All,
I had a fantastic all day outing yesterday to Highland County. Absolutely
gorgeous day with birds everywhere. Stopped at the Breastworks on 250 (probably
Augusta County), Margaret O'Bryans, Laurel Fork Road (642) to Allegheny road,
Hightown. Best birds were singing Golden-wing and Brewster's Warblers, a
Black-billed Cuckoo (on WV/VA border at very end of Wimer lane) which sat
patiently for photos, Vesper Sparrow, Least Flycatchers, Cliff Swallow, and
about 16 species of Warblers including a FOY Northern Waterthrush at the
Gensing Mountain Lane Bridge. An Alder Flycatcher was heard singing at the
Beaver Ponds on 642 at Straight Fork but not seen... I spent close to two hours
chasing the calling bird but without result.
Below is a list of 80 species seen in taxonic order with location of first
sighting and occassional notes. Unfortunately the numbers of each species is
not included I will have to figure out how to export that important piece of
information another time. I divided up 642 Laurel Fork Road into three sections
for more meaningful exporting to eBird. I think they want data for areas less
then 5 miles.... No Eagles this trip and only 2 Raptors a Red-tailed Hawk
(which didn't but should have made the list) and an unidentified raptor seen
briefly from moving vehicle.
