Apologies again, I forgot to mention water levels in the pools at Hog Island.
They are very high (not surprising to me)-- too high for shorebirds in most
spots. I heard only one yellowlegs species call once in the distance.

Subject: [Va-bird] Least Bittern @ Hog Island WMA, Surry County
Apologies for the late report.
Yesterday, at about 6:10pm, I heard a Least Bittern calling from the southern
end of the southernmost pool at Hog Island, adjacent to the mailbox where
entrance placards are returned. The bird appeared to be in a section of
phragmites, but there was also a stand of shorter vegetation (sedges, I
believe) that the bird could have been within. I never saw the bird, but it
continued to call until I left, about 15 minutes later. There was possibly a
second bird as well.
