I poked my head out the door at 7:50 PM last night (Friday) and was greeted
with the buzzing call of a low-flying nighthawk in the (then) light rain. I
couldn't spot it in the dim light, but heard at least the one bird repeatedly
as it circled in the area. My wife reported hearing Nighthawks Thursday night.
So this may mean we are beginning to get them in our area in Glencarlyn in
south Arlington. I will try to watch for them in the evenings and report if I
see any heavy concentrations such as I have seen in some previous Septembers.
It will be interesting to see how the passage of Hanna plays out and whether we
get a show this evening. Cheers,

It was raining lightly last evening when I got to the Tysons tower buildings
about 8:10, and the sky was full of nighthawks. They were low and actively
feeding.
I soon moved over to the other side of Gallows Road, where it was easier, and
drier in the car,? to look at the birds spread out across the sky. There were
about 30-plus birds.? It looked ever-so-much? like an aerial ballet;Very nice
indeed.
