VA BIRDers,
After splitting with Marc at Leesylvania SP, I visited Julie Metz and
chanced upon a pair of Wood Ducks and 3 female Hooded Mergansers - the
latter suggests to me eggs or young are nearby in a box. I traveled to the
north side of Neabsco Creek, after stopping for a hot dog from another
vendor (the rating on this dog was a solid 2 out of 5, wrinkled dog,
somewhat wilted bun), and viewed the marsh. Here I lucked out with a pair
of Mallards, 3 Blue-winged Teal and 50 Greater Yellowlegs plus 8 Lesser
Yellowlegs and another Spotted Sandpiper. Thinking that ducks was the
answer to the after noon birding question, I made tracks for Occoquan Marina
and then Mason Neck SP. Here is the sum of the birds on or over the water:

Subject: [Va-bird] Possum Point indigo bunting, chat, summer tanager
I birded Possum Pt/Cockpit Pt roads and Leesylvania SP thus morning in
eastern Prince William county, accompanied at various times by Bill
Hohenstein and Kurt Gaskill. The morning started off cold and drizzly, but
ended up sunny and warm. Highlights were FOY yellow-breasted chat, indigo
bunting, and summer tanager on Cockpit Pt. Other notables were 6 rusty
blackbirds along Quantico Creek, northern waterthrush along Possum Pt. Rd.,
Bonsparte's gull at Leesylvaia, and yellow-throated and blue-headed vireos.
I tallied 85 species in all.
