Many thanks to Phil for this report. I headed over there from 4:15 until dark
this afternoon and had super scope views of the 2 long-tailed ducks and 10
horned grebes. The White-winged scoter was not present at that time. ALso
present was a drake Common Merganser and the resident pair of bald eagles, one
of which was sitting very low in the nest. About 1200 canada geese settled into
the lake after sunset. I did not see any Cackling Geese today but they could
easily have been missed in the dim conditions.All the bestFred Atwood

VA Birders,
A small group of NVBC members were able to find an adult female White-winged
Scoter, and 2 female Long-tailed Duck this morning out from the marina near the
edge of the ice. Also several Horned Grebe present with the plentiful Canada
Geese.
