To my excitement, we had two more flyovers of tundra swans, one last night
around 12:30am (so loud that I heard it through the closed window), and this
evening around 9pm. For this evening's flyover, I jumped up and ran outside in
time to see a flock of about 30 tundra swans heading north.
This morning, I also heard my first spring Eastern Towhee saying it's name and
singing about tea. Migration is upon us!

Subject: [Va-bird] evening flyover of tundra swans (Alexandria)
We've come to keeping our bedroom windows open a crack just about year round to
enjoy the sounds of nature at our house (typically howling coyotes and an
occasional barred owl). But tonight my husband called for me to listen and I
caught the tail end of what he heard - a flyover of tundra swans. He and I
were lucky enough to see and hear one two years ago here at home at night -
what a sight with those white bodies against the deep dark night sky! I was
sorry to have visually missed this one, but audible treat was wonderful -
iBirdPro confirmed his guess.
You just never know what a cracked window will bring! :)
