I have way too many hummers to even begin to count them. And I learned
years ago that if you group all of your feeders very close together it
makes it impossible for one male to become dominant because he can't
guard so many, so that's never been a problem for my hummers.
The only way that I can gauge my population is by the amount of sugar
water I have to prepare and replenish, and I would say that right now
things are completely normal here. I just this second watched the
feeders for a few minutes and saw at least 5 males and lots of females
(too many to count) drinking from them at one time, which I would
consider completely normal for this time of year.
