Only two people joined me today for the joint Northern Virginia Bird Club
and Audubon Society of Northern Virginia sponsored walk at Meadowood in
Fairfax County, but we sure had some nice birds. We had a good collection
of sparrows, with the highlight being a Vesper Sparrow mixed in with a few
much smaller Chippers near the small open shed. We were amazed at the
number of Palm Warblers (22) and bluebirds (40) in the meadow. We had all
three Red-breasted Nuthatches in the conifers near the horse stables. Our
biggest miss was Eastern Meadowlark. Only 32 species, but a successful and
enjoyable walk.
