Dear all,
We at the Clifton Institute are studying the effects of grassland
restoration on native animals and plants, and we are looking for skilled
volunteers to help us sample birds. In collaboration with our research
partners <https://cliftoninstitute.org/about-us/partners/>, this
volunteer-led effort is collecting information on the distribution and
abundance of birds, butterflies, dragonflies, bumble bees, and plants,
before and after the restoration of a 200-acre pasture.
The bird work involves three miles of walking in order to do eight point
counts. There is a mowed path that connects the points, but the terrain is
uneven and there are some wet spots. The counts are done once per month,
year-round, and counts can be done on weekends or on week days.
We have found some great birds so far, such as breeding Dickcissels,
Grasshopper Sparrows, and Blue Grosbeaks, and migrating Willow Flycatchers,
Bobolinks, and Wilson’s Snipe.
