I saw two adult male WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS this afternoon at Sandy River
Reservoir just outside of Farmville. This is a county record for me and one
of only a few records ever in the South-Central Piedmont. Most records are
recent, being from mid-January to mid-February of 2014.
I first saw these large black ducks from the Boat Ramp Parking Lot and then
traveled to the west side Rt. 605 boat launch to confirm and take photos.
Other highlights were one BONAPARTE'S GULL, several HORNED GREBE, and three
up-close AMERICAN COOT.
