Checked the Amherst Lakes (Mill Creek, Thrashers, and Stonehouse) yesterday
morning with the very slim hope that a Franklin's Gull had worked its way back
inland. No gulls around but a few waterfowl were seen. Most notable was a flock
of 12 Northern Shovelers consisting of 5 males and 7 females at Mill Creek
Lake. A pretty high count for this area and the most I have ever seen in
Amherst Co at one time. They were loosely associating with 8 Mallards, 6
Gadwall, and a single female Northern Pintail (very uncommon in these parts).
There were also several Ruddy Duck and 3 Bufflehead there. Only a couple of
Pied-billed Grebe at Stonehouse and 3 Common Merganser at Thrasher.
Cheers,
Mike
