Five birders participated in the Northern Virginia Bird Club sponsored walk
at Dyke Marsh today. There was a nice assortment of waterfowl with close
views of Canvasbacks, Ring-necked Ducks, and Common Mergansers off the
picnic area. Hooded Mergansers were concentrated in the Little Gut on the
south side of the Haul Road peninsula. A Greater Scaup provided close study
in the channel on the north viewing area of the boardwalk. Bald Eagles put
on a nice aerial display. Passerine numbers were down today, but a
foraging Ruby-crowned Kinglet with crown fully exposed provided prolonged
and pleasing looks. A special thanks to Tom Nardone for keeping the ebird
list today as the battery in my cell phone is giving me issues.
