Yesterday hiking Turks Gap Road south from Sugar Hollow Reservoir, west of
Charlottesville, I heard and saw no white-throated sparrows. Today on the
same trail there were at least 30 (total), in 4 separate flocks along a 2.5
mile route. I also saw the first white-throat of the fall at my house today,
which is about 5 miles east of the reservoir.
On the trail also had one red-eyed vireo, a blue-headed vireo, an ovenbird,
black-throated green warbler and a pine warbler. also a dozen plus
ruby-crowned kinglets, one golden-crowned kinglet an Empidonax sp. First brown
creeper of the fall, too.
And then about a minute ago I saw the first white-crowned sparrow i've ever
seen at my house... been here for almost 18 years.
