Thanks for the article.
Yesterday evening while sitting under a Dogwood tree in my backyard, waiting
for some birds to show up, a bunch of crows flew in making a lot of noise. At
first I thought, ‘Well, I 'll just take Crow pictures then!'
I should have been paying more that the usual attention to the crows. They
were really sounding the alarm about an intruder.
My chickens were out scratching for bugs not far from me but the crows never
squawk at them.
Then all of a sudden I heard a scuffle next to the chicken house and saw a Red
Fox all over one of my Buff Orpington hens. It snuck up past me hoping to have
a chicken dinner. I yelled loud enough to wake the dead if such a thing was
possible and the fox took off back into the woods, chickenless.
It stopped to see where I was as I continued hollering at it. I regret not
getting a photo of it because it was truly a beautiful Red Fox that appeared to
be in excellent health and form. My actions prove that I am not a
photojournalist. My chicken was more important than the shot!
My hen lost a few feathers but escaped otherwise unhurt while the others
scampered for cover.
The crows followed the fox back to where it came from, alerting everything in
it's path that he or she was heading their way.
In the past I have looked for and usually spotted hawks when crows become
excited, but this was a first with”The Fox And The Chicken”.
