Belated thanks to all who responded to my hummingbird question back in May.
If only I had done my homework and checked my records from 2007, I would
have known the answer to my own question. Here is what last season looked
like:
Sightings in 2007 - Number of days in each month that Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds were observed at the feeder in my yard.
April - 4 days (starting on the 22nd)
May - 7 days
June - 6 days
July - 9 days
August - 22 days
September - 27 days
October - 7 days (last day being Oct.17)
````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Sightings in 2008 (so far)
April - 13 days (beginning on the 12th)
May - 6 days
June - 4 days
July - 24 days
August - 30 days
The hummers were probably in the Tulip Trees in May as Marlene Condon
explained but I didn't see them. Well, let's just say that I didn't spend a
lot of time looking for them but I kept replenishing the feeder as she and
several others suggested.
I have one sugar water feeder just outside my kitchen window. Downy
Woodpeckers occasionally stop by for a long drink. But imagine my surprise
one day to look out and see a Hairy Woodpecker on there!
