The Whimbrel that was discovered at Staunton View on Saturday was still
present this morning. It was foraging along the same mudflats giving very
nice views. I believe the bird is a juvenile based on it's shorter,
straighter bill and heavily patterned upperparts.
Overall shorebird and wading bird numbers were down considerably from
Saturday. I'm assuming many of them moved out with the cold front. Other
notables were 1 White Ibis and a flock of 22 Blue-winged Teal.
We also enjoyed nice views of a Peregrine Falcon unsuccessfully hunting
shorebirds, an immature Bald Eagle trying to steal an Ospreys catch and a
Northern Harrier.
