The Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk drew only 13 birders on this near
perfect Labor Day holiday. With temperatures rising from the 60s to the high
70s, and cloudless skies, we tallied 47 species. Highlights of this morning's
walk were topped by 3 Soras dodging in and out of the cattails on the northern
edge of the central wetland. (The term adopted spontaneously by the group was
a
'flock' of Soras.) Also, an American Kestrel was spotted, and 4 Warbler
species
including a Magnolia, Northern Waterthrush, and American Redstart. Our hopes
of
a fallout of Warblers due to Earl or the cold front following may only have
been
partially realized.
