Last evening at approximately 6:30 p.m. my husband was at the stoplight
located at Judes Ferry Road and Rt. 60 in Powhatan County when he spotted a
large bird flying across the road and landing in the wooded lot on the
northwest corner. At first he thought it was a Green Heron due to the size
and shape but the coloration was completely wrong. He said it was white
beneath and dark above and had never seen anything quite like it. I
immediately thought of the White Ibis given the recent sightings and in
particular the sighting down by Henricus Park - Dutch Gap. I immediately
got my Sibley and turned to the White Ibis Immature and he exclaimed "that's
it!" I brought it to the attention of my mentor Wendy Ealding so I'm
positive she'll keep an eye out as well.
