My first visit to Leesylvania SP was great. in about 2 1/2 hours I ran into
a couple mixed flocks of birds, which yielded 6 species of warbler
(including Worm Eating), Summer Tanager (a life bird for me!) , and
Yellow-Billed Cuckoo. The birds were very cooperative and gave good looks.
See complete list below.
The largest diversity was in a flock behind the Visitor Center, but I also
had a nice group of birds by the point just East of the Cartop Boat Launch
area.

Falls Church, VA
Location: Leesylvania State Park - CPW04
Observation date: 9/10/10
Notes: A couple of great mixed flocks, one at the north of the park
behind the visitor center, another by the boardwalk near the cartop launch
area on the point. Summer Tanager was a female that was very obviously not a
Scarlet. Very yellow color, with a touch of orange on the undertail coverts.
Large pale bill. Many birds were foraging quite low, and the worm- eating
warbler gave me the look of the lifetime. Could have had a great photo of
Worm-Eating and Ovenbird in the same shot if I had a good camera, as well as
two Parulas at eye level in some Honeysuckle.
