Good afternoon all!
In life there comes an occasion in which we need to kick back and relax,
and I decided to do just that this morning before school. I went with Jim
and Larson to the powerline area behind my school and a couple of times I
heard an unfamiliar call. I thought I was hearing things and trudged on in
the light rain with my friends, but then after some pishing we saw a plump
bird fly up (not very high) and then disappeared again in the brush. The
bird had nothing in the area of a tail and was a brown color. We rushed
around to try to see the bird, but saw nothing. The woodcock bumps my
school list up to 98, two away from my goal of 100 before I graduate. I
also heard a Pine Warbler and had two Wood Ducks in the pond. We went into
the woods a little and I had a couple of yellow-rumps and I thought we had
a Parula, because I heard a rising trill but that familiar Parula ending
call note was lacking, so I was wondering if it was just a chipping
sparrow. The call came from the same place as the butter butts and some
chickadees.
I am going to try to get out Thursday evening to see if there are any
woodcocks displaying and then try for owls.
