My son heard a woodcock this morning as he was leaving for school -- He called
me to come out and sure enough, I heard it peenting.
We live right off of Little River Turnpike in Alexandria (Fairfax County). We
have a stream valley behind our house, so I'm not too surprised that they are
around. My guess is that with the woods full of snow, the yard looked like a
good spot to find worms.
This is a new yard bird and the first woodcock I've observed inside the beltway.
