Greatly to my surprise, I flushed a Woodcock in Wakefield Park earlier today.
This may well be a first record for the park - certainly the first recent
record.
The bird was roosting inside a large bush alongside some grass playing fields,
a most suitable spot, except for the fact that the park is so well used. Not
that anyone is usually there at dusk, so perhaps this is a regular spot that
has just gone unnoticed. In the next few days I will visit at dusk to see if it
is displaying.
