I did an early walk on the Parsons Tract at Natural Bridge this morning,
starting behind the hotel at around 7:00 AM, and had a whopping seven woodcocks
out calling and displaying within a short distance of each other, including one
that I flushed from a mud puddle at my feet.
The scrubby fields and muddy forest floors here are great for these birds. We
flushed one along one of the creeks one day last week (in daylight) and got
some good views when it landed.
