Today I made my first visit to Zoar forest preserve in King William
county. This place offers a nice variety of habitats, and a nice
corresponding
mix of species. Yellow-breasted Chat, Blue Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings and
Chipping Sparrows were very vocal and easily spotted around the parking
area. Black and White Warblers, Northern Parula, and Great Crested
Flycatchers
were found in the hardwood forest section. The swampy area had Hooded
Warbler and Common Yellowthroat, while Summer Tanagers were found throughout
the entire preserve.
I didn't get to Zoar Preserve until 1100, but the birds were very active.
It makes me want to visit this spot again earlier in the day to compare
the level of bird activity.
