During the past several days there have been numerous reports of BLUE-
HEADED VIREOs in Northern Virginia. As if on cue, this morning I saw
one in my yard in Oakton, in Fairfax County. In our suburban
neighborhood this is an extraordinarily good bird. The only other
time I've seen one here was on April 27, two years ago.
It is striking to hear about so many individuals of a species
appearing in this entire region at the same time, and seeing one of
the participants as well. (My participant gave me several good views,
but unfortunately no singing today.)
