VA-Birders,
The Northern Virginia Bird Club met at Royal Lake for some late winter birding
in Fairfax County. We observed 37 species including an early Barn Swallow well
seen by all seven of us. From the top of the dam we watched an Eastern Bluebird
defending a nest box from Tree Swallows, and there were several Red-winged
Blackbirds competing for prime territory on the lakeshore. Song Sparrows,
Northern Cardinals and Eastern Towhee were all singing. Happy Spring! Complete
list follows.
