Really nice time at Lake Fairfax this AM. 62 species. Highlights were
Philadelphia Vireo, my first VA Rose-breasted Grosbeak and Blue-Winged Warbler
of the year, 15 species of warblers, 2 pied-billed grebes, and two more
red-breasted nuthatches. (We had record numbers of RBNU this summer at our
place in Cape Cod,so I am guessing there might be big numbers down here this
winter too.)
Here is the eBird list.
All the best

Location: Lake Fairfax
Observation date: 9/11/10
Notes: Walked from Hunter Mill Rd along creek and south side of lake to
woods, then back behind camping area to edge of playing fields then through
woods on lake-side of road back to Hunter Mill Rd.The walnut (and other) trees
in the picnic area before Hunter Mill Rd were full of birds at around 9:30 as I
returned. I stayed until I saw no more birds arriving. They seemed to be
passing through from the wooded hill, to these trees, to the thicket along the
creek, and then beyond.
