There is a greater white-fronted goose in a field off of Shiloh School Road
(Rt. 606) in lower Northumberland County, Northern Neck about six miles
north of Kilmarnock. It is in a flock of approx. 900 Canadas and one snow
goose and seemed to stay close to the snow goose as they grazed ryegrass
shoots in the corn stubble. This flock, which sometimes swells to nearly
2000 birds, has been moving around the Ball's Neck area for several weeks
and, if it leaves this field, can probably be relocated along Ball's Neck
Road (Rt. 605) somewhere between Rt. 200 and it's terminus near Hughlett
Point NAP. I heard of this animal several days ago, reported to be a "blue
goose", so it may be sticking around for a while.
