Hello VA-Birders,
Lynn and I just returned from a camping trip, spending time birding in South
Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee. We noticed in each state, the same thing
that also happened here in Virginia: lots of "rare bird" alerts for Thrushes -
mostly Wood Thrushes of course, but a few others too. I assume all of those
during late October were flagged rare because they were late, based on the
local filters.
When a species (or family, in this case) turns up late on many local filters
across a wide region, it seems like something significant. But maybe not .. ..
How often does this occur, does anyone know? I have not noticed it before, but
of course I haven't covered a bunch of states in a short period before.
And more specifically, is there any thinking about the source of this year's
prolonged Thrush passage?
