Weather:
Light winds were variable, often from the northwest. Skies were clear, with
temperatures in the forties to sixties.
Raptor Observations:
Birds were high-flying and often on the east side. There was a nice
red-tail movement. Early this morning, an adult male Cooper's Hawk landed
on the railing of the platform for a split second, about six feet away from
me! The bird glanced at me and then quickly darted away towards the pines
to the north.
Non-raptor Observations:
Yellow-rumped Warblers were all over the lawn throughout the day, and they
entertained us with their antics. At least four cute little Eastern Phoebes
were also around, frequently flycatching. Thousands of American Robins were
seen this morning, and many of them were northbound. Other observations
included:
~40 American Goldfinches
12 Eastern Bluebirds
10 Cedar Waxwings
10 Purple Finches
5 Pine Siskins
4 Common Loons
4 House Finches
3 American Pipits
3 White-crowned Sparrows
2 Eastern Meadowlarks
1 Field Sparrow
1 Indigo Bunting
56 Monarchs
