We walked the first 1.25 miles of the Canal Trail late this morning. 2
Black-throated Green Warblers were heard and one was seen. Also, a FOY singing
Yellow Warbler was found at about the 1.25 mile marker (lots of privet here and
several cottonwood trees). We found 12 species of warblers. A flock of 4 Blue
Grosbeaks was seen and a group of Orchard Orioles (at least 3) was also seen.
The Dismal Swamp NWR Birding Festival was fun. Good numbers of the expected
species, but I don't recall hearing about any sightings of rare species.
Several groups found Blue-winged Warblers, which are expected, but not common.
