VA Birders,
I spent about an hour early this morning walking on the Bull
Run/Occaquan Trail mentioned by Laura Catterton in her post yesterday.
This trail runs along Bull Run from Bull Run Regional Park and has some
great habitat. I found many BG Gnatcatchers and Northern Parulas
(actually got to see one of them too) but the big surprise for me was a
pair of Yellow-crowned Night-Herons perched in a tree just a short way
from picnic area 9 where I started. They didn't like my presence and
flew off to a patch of trees in the middle of a soccer field across Bull
Run from the path. I seem to be finding these guys everywhere these
days! I also saw the Rusty Blackbird flock that Laura had.
