My annual New Years Day yard walk included 3 Eastern Phoebes this year instead
of 2 that winter over in the side yard, 8 yellow-rumped warblers-up from 6 that
usually overwinter, a hermit thrush that has been landing about 20 feet up a
red cedar to eat berries lately, about 40 cedar waxwings, 6 American Robins,
the pair of Red-shouldered hawks that live out back, a Pied-billed Grebe and an
American Coot on the lake out front, 2 Great horned owls that call back and
forth pretty much throughout the day and night, a winter wren by the back deck,
and the usual list:
downy woodpecker
pileated woodpeckers
bluebirds
tufted titmouse,
carolina chickadee
cardinal
song sparrow
white throated sparrow
field sparrow
purple finches
goldfinches
blue jays
american crows
black vultures
turkey vultures
great blue heron
