Was out birding with my third grade science
classes today Nov 8 on the Flint Hill School East
Campus on busy route 123. The students were all
excited to view House Sparrows, American Crows, a
male cardinal and starlings in binoculars, (as
well as their distant feet when viewed through
upside-down binoculars). Then the volume of the
excited exclamations increased dramatically when
one of the students spotted a magnificent adult
bald eagle soaring over our heads not high above
the trees. Two crows kept pestering it for a few
minutes as it soared and circled higher and
higher, finally zipping off to the NE. We also
saw a cooper's hawk, a red-tailed hawk, a turkey
vulture, some mourning doves and a purple finch.
The purple finch perched long enough for all to
get a good look. I think a few young birders may
have been born today. 8>D
