Saturday, I mentioned a photographer photographing a white hummingbird in
New Jersey that I thought was likely an albino due to the pink bill, pink
feet, overall white appearance, and the appearance of red in the eye when
the photographer adjusted the light levels in Photoshop. Well, the
photographer has been back and gotten many more photos. It seems that my
first impressions of this bird may be in error as there are a few feathers
that are not pure white. The eyes do appear to have red in them, though the
pupil seems to be black.
I recognize this is not a VA bird, but any thoughts about it are welcome by
the photographer. I can forward your remarks back to him.
If we need a tie in to Virginia, the property owner first saw this bird one
day after her son showed her photos of the Staunton, VA white hummer. When
she saw this bird, she says she thought she was going nuts. She called her
son and told him what had come to her feeder, and he thought his mother
(well into her 80's) had gone.well I won't say.
