Just as expected, Apple has used its WWDC 2016
<http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/apple/feature/a791173/wwdc-2016-dates-live-s
tream-keynote-announcements-and-everything-you-need-to-know/>  keynote to
unveil iOS 10
<http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/apple/feature/a794812/ios-10-update-download

Landing alongside new watchOS 3
<http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/wearables/news/a797645/apple-watch-gets-seri
ous-update-thanks-to-watchos-3/>  and macOS Sierra
<http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/computing/news/a797653/apple-launches-all-ne

mobile-friendly software will debut later this year - presumably alongside
the upcoming iPhone 7
<http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/apple/feature/a670501/iphone-7-release-date-
rumours-news-specs-price-and-everything-you-need-to-know/>  - but Apple's
already teased a number of key new features.

Chief among these is Messages. The most used iPhone application is getting a
serious overhaul with everything from handwritten messages and emoji-based
predictive text to in-message video playback and multiple bubble effect
joining the mix.

It's just the tip of the iOS 10 iceberg too. With the new software, your
voicemails will be transcribed into typed messages and your phone will
automatically detect spam calls and alert you before you accept them.

Elsewhere, Apple Music and Apple News have been redesigned, with new
features thrown in for good measure, and there are also redesigns being
bestowed upon Apple Maps.

It's not just how it looks that's different though, iOS 10 will make your
iPhone significantly smarter.

It will start off when you pick your phone up. Now, as soon as you lift your
handset, your iPhone will wake, showing you your notifications without
having to press a single button.

Before you unlock your phone, you'll be able to delve into these
notifications - assuming you have an iPhone 6S
<http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/apple/review/a669753/iphone-6s-review-apples
-3d-touch-screen-and-camera-improvements-make-the-best-better/>  - using 3D
Touch. With a firm press, you'll be able to reply to messages, preview
emails and even track your Uber's progress.

You can now quick-launch your iPhone's camera from the lock screen too,
simply by pulling in from the right, while swiping up will launch the
all-new Control Panel - including the separate audio and home control
panels.

While the iOS 10 release date has been pencilled in for this autumn, those
eager to enjoy an early play will be able to sample a free public beta
starting in July.
