Tony,In the view menu of IE8, if 'lock the toolbars' is checked, uncheck by pressing enter on it. Then, either from there or from the tools menu - alt+t, disable any unwanted toolbars/add-ons. (Be sure that Skype is not running, to remove any Skype add-on.) Once such add-ons are disabled, they may then be removed via Control panel, add/remove.

Aedan, I remember I got this babylon toolbar alive and kicking, also, when iupgraded to IE8. I unlocked toolbars, disabled babylon, and then removed it. (it's a languagetranslation toolbar, I believe. may also be spyware.) I think it may have come down from an earlier use & incarnation of internet Explorer: the toolbar (like the Winnamp toolbar, and possibly others) was activated again when I installed IE8.----- Original Message ----- From: "Aedan O'Meara" <aedanomeara@xxxxxxxxx>To: <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, September 08, 2011 7:05 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: Jaws losing focus Hi Francis, Many thanks for that. Last night I found every time I called up ie8 Jaws went to a blank screenand I had to do alt+tab to get into the ie8 window. I went checking Jaws basic settings as suggested on a blog but changing these did nothing forthe problem. So, I went checking the view settings of ie8. I found at the very bottom a reference to "Babylon toolbar". I disabled this and wola theproblem cleared and Jaws landed on the edit field every time on starting ie8! I then went into Manage addons under tools in ie8 and disabled alladdons. So far all is well. I have no idea where this Babylon toolbar came from. Kind regards Aedan. -----Original Message-----From: vip_students-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx[mailto:vip_students-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Francis Kane Sent: Wednesday, September 07, 2011 6:16 PM To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [vip_students] Jaws losing focus Hi Aedan, Here's a solution Paul put forward below. I know this worked for some peopleI worked with. Once we changed the setting to Windows 7 Basic all focusissues were corrected. Hope that helps. Recently especially with jaws 12, jaws has been behaving very poorly with a lot of problems. I have had to uninstall the most recentjaws 12 update as I couldn't read either Excel or Internet explorer properly. If you have jaws 12 on a DVD like an original jaws 12 then I would suggest removing completely the jaws you have installed currently and reinstalling again. Is there any website in particular with these difficult links? Sometimes links generated by JavaScript can cause problems for JAWS. You can try pressing Ins+NumPadMinus followed by NumPadSlash. That usually does it for me. Or you could try NVDA. It's a little more JavaScript-tolerant, good luck, John-- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter.
