Hi John,
Whilst you perhaps can't undelete an item, can you not get it back
through iTunes, or if you back up your stuff in iCloud, etc? (I have
only deleted apps I installed myself and
later found to be not worth my while having. In such an event, if i
wanted the item again I could get it in the App Store.)

Hi Paul H,
Swipe down to the app you want to delete. Double tap and hold (on the
second tap, keep your finger pressed). VoiceOver will say, "Moving
App," and when you release your finger, "App is editing." At this
point, double tap the app to delete. VO will ask you to confirm.
Repeat the steps above to delete any other apps you want to get rid
of. Press the Home button once to exit Edit Mode. And be careful!
Once an app is gone, you can't undelete it.
