For those using Microsoft Outlook it is different if you wish to back up
your emails compared to doing it in Outlook Express.

Below are what I hope will be the instructions you will use to perform this
task.

Notes: This tutorial assumes you are using windows XP and that you are using
the following versions of Microsoft Outlook: outlook 2000, outlook 2002,
outlook 2003.

1. Open up the start menu and go to run.

2. Type in the following line;

C:\documents and settings\user name\local settings\application data

And then press the "enter key".

Note: In the line above I have mentioned the word "user name", user name
can be anything such as your own name like for example paul or Paul Traynor
or Joan smith. Basically it will mostly be your own name so just remember
this.

4. After you press the enter key, you will have more folders. Here we are
looking for a folder called "Microsoft", press enter here and then another
folder called "outlook". This is the folder that contains the main "outlook
file". This file contains all of our received, saved and deleted emails from
the past. It also contains the outlook address book so it is well worth
backing up.

5. Press the enter key on the outlook folder and in here look around for a
file simply called "outlook". This is the gem we are looking for.

6. Copy it using the usual keys of "control + C" and then use "alt + f4" to
close back to the desktop.

7. Now you need a safe place to back up the saved file. I usually recommend
a good "memory stick or pen drive" as they are sometimes called. Also
another good item is an external hard drive as you can back up so much more
onto this form of device.

Whatever your chosen device, go into it via "my computer" on the desktop and
arrow to its drive letter then press the enter key and if you have a special
folder in here then go into it and paste in the saved file.

Hope you find this article useful.

Paul.
