What windows version are you using?
Are you used to using windows explorer or file explorer as it is called in
newest windows?

When I press the "left alt" & I arrow left, I do not get a file tab.
What I do get is:- Home tab, Insert tab, Page Layout tab, References tab,
Mailing tab, Review tab, View tab, Microsoft Office help button & Office
button.
Is what I'm looking for in any of those?

Tried this out in Word 2016 so it applies to versions of Word from 2010 to
2016:
You can protect a document by using a password to help prevent unauthorized
access.
1. Press left alt to open the menu bar and left arrow to the File tab.
2. Press down-arrow onto Info.
3. Press tab a few times until you hear "Protect Document" and press enter
4. Press down arrow until you hear "Encrypt with Password" and press enter.
5. In the Encrypt Document box, type a password, and then tab to OK.
6. In the Confirm Password box, type the password again, and then tab to OK.
NOTE:
Passwords are case-sensitive. Make sure that the CAPS LOCK key is turned off
when you enter a password for the first time.
If you lose or forget a password, Word cannot recover your data.
I adapted this instruction from the web to reflect screen reader action
rather than mouse clicks!
