Hi Paul
After doing alt h for help in different places such as outlook express and on the desk top I found out eventually that when I went into an open word document I found an option saying show or hide the office assistant

On pressing enter on that option it turned that particular pest off.

At no stage did i find anything to say it was checked or not checked

Thanks for putting me on the right track with alt and h

Tom

Subject: [vip_students] The office assistant

Hi all
Was extracting some information today from an excel sheet and putting it into a word document. In the background I was hearing all sorts of clicks and sounds. One of the sounds reminded me of a door closing.

I am totally guessing here, would the office assistant be on?
Does anybody know how to turn it off or what else could those sounds be?
I have no idea how it got turned on either

Some most unusual things happening with my computer today and maybe more on that later

Tom
