Subject: [vip_students] Giraffe reader

Hi all,
I have recently purchased a giraffe reader for my iPhone 6 and am really
happy with the results I am getting when using this product.
It is a stand made from corrigated cardboard which allows you to line up and
scan documents almost perfectly. It is a little bigger than a dvd case and
folds up when not in use and can easily fit in your bag when travelling.
This stand was designed with blind people in mind as when folding and
unfolding it it has tactile stickers to help you put it in the right
position. When unfolded, there is a little cradle on the left side that the
phone sits in to and on the right is the base plate that you line the
document up against. This product is great for me as this way the phone is
in the right position for me and I don't end up missing some of the text in
the document as it all gets captured using the stand.

Different scanning apps can be used with this stand and I have noticed on
their Website and on their vidio they use prizmo and text detective.
However, I havn't tried any of these apps yet as I have them removed from my
phone. I am using KNFB reader am getting really good results. I would
advise to turn off the tilt guidance feature when using KNFB reader as even
when the document is perfectly aligned it doesn't stop vibrating. I asked a
sighted person to test this as I thought I didn't have it lined up perfectly
but the same happened for them and it read the document perfectly.

The cost of this product is 32 sterling or €42. However, if you pay with
paypal they charge an extra 4% conversion rate that I didn't know about which
makes it €47. There is a way to disable the 4% charge in paypal at the
checkout and let the banks charge 2% or something like that but I don't know
how its done until I make another purchase in a different currency.

On the website there is a vidio of the giraffe reader in use, instructions on
how to fold and unfold it and all you need to know about the product. They
have giraffe readers for all the different versions of the iPhones and if you
email them I am sure they could sort something out for Android phones or
iPads. They are very good at responding to questions that you email them.
The Website is as

Mairead
