Hi All, No matter which kind of computer you use you occasionally need to check it for the latest software and the MAC is no exception. It is important to check for software updates from time to time on the Mac as it doesn't always inform you that there are indeed updates available. The software updates are important because they install fixes and new driver updates for applications and other devices on the machine both hardware and software. Below I have written up some instructions for those using macs on how to perform a software update on their machine. 1. When you are positioned on the desktop, Press keys, "control, Option + M". This jumps you up onto the apple menu bar and the main apple menu itself becomes highlighted. 2. Press the "Down Arrow" to move down through the options. When you arrive on (Software Updates), press the enter key. 3. When the software update screen opens up you will be prompted for the following information; *. Your apple user name. *. Your apple password. *. Help Button. *. Cancel Button. *. Check Button. Notes: Use the tab key to move to any of the choices mentioned above. 4. Once you have typed in your apple user name and password press the tab key till you arrive on the "Check button" and press the keys, "Control, Option + spacebar" to activate and continue checking for available updates. Notes: After you have selected the "check for updates button" you may find that focus has been now thrown back onto the main desktop screen. You can refocus on the software update screen by using keys, "Command key + Tab" just like you would use the alt + tab keys in windows. The command key is the key just to the right and left of your spacebar. 4. After a few moments of searching over the web for updates and if they are found you will have a screen returned to you with the following items on it; *. Continue. *. Show details. *. Not now. Notes: Use the tab key to jump to any of the above items. 5. As we want to download and install any new updates to our machines we will move onto the "Continue button" and press the combination of "Control, Option + spacebar" and this will advance us on to the next screen. 6. At this point if the connection has been made over the internet and the software begins to download then a single "Stop button" will become highlighted and Voice Over will announce this fact. 7. Finally when the number of available updates have been determined and been prepared for final installation to our computer a new screen will appear with the following items; *. Restart Button. *. Not now button. Notes: Use the tab key to move to either of the above two buttons. At this point it would be wise to choose the "restart button" by using keys, "Control, Option + spacebar". The MAC will then begin downloading the new updates and install them. If you are wondering about the progress of how the download is going then use keys, "Control, Option + right arrow" to move once to the right. Here you are now on a progress window and as well as hearing the percentages of your downloads you will also hear a clicking sound indicating that things are working nicely. Once the downloaded updates have been installed the MAC will reboot itself and you will hear Voice Over come up talking once more. The updates have now been successfully installed and the job is done. Paul. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. We are a community of 7 million users fighting spam.
