Navigating through a Document

Introduction:
As a document gets longer, it gets harder and harder to navigate through it.
For example, if you were working on a 200-page novel, how would you get to
the very end of the document or to page 54? This lesson will show you how to
move through a Word document.
Note:Attached to this email lesson is a "400 page" document about the life
of Abraham Lincoln". We will save this file into our "My Documents folder"
as we have done in earlier lessons and use it to illustrate the steps in
this lesson.

Step 1. Open the document named Abraham Lincoln: A History, vol 1X .

Note: This document is several pages long, so it will be great for learning
how to move around in a document.
(Magnification users)
*. One way to get around in a document is by using Word's scroll bars. The
vertical scroll bar is located along the right side of the window and is
used to move up and down in a document. The horizontal scroll bar is located
along the bottom of the window, and is used to move from left to right when
a document doesn't fit entirely on the screen.

Step 2. Click the scroll down button on the bottom of the vertical scroll
bar several times .

*. When you click the arrow, the screen scrolls down one line at a time.
This causes the screen to move downward more rapidly.

Step 3. Click and drag the vertical scroll box to the top of the scroll bar
.

*. This takes you back to the beginning of the document.

(Screen reader users)
*. Press the End key .

Note:The insertion point moves to the end of the current line.

*.Press the Home key .

Note: The insertion point moves to the beginning of the current line.

*. Press Ctrl + End .

Note: The insertion point moves to the end of the document.

Step 4. Review the "Status bar" by using keys "insert + page down" and I
mean the page down on the "group of 6 keys just above the arrow keys".
The Status line which resides at the bottom of the screen in word tells you
what page or line you are currently on.

*. Press the Page Up key to move up one screen.

*. Press the Page Down key to move down one screen.

*. Press Ctrl + Home to jump to the beginning of the document.

Note: You can also move directly to a certain page number in a document
which we will look at later.

Another way to navigate a document is by using the Select Browse Object
button , using keyboard keys or the "go to option in the edit menu".

Step 1. Select Edit, "alt + letter E". Arrow down to "Go To". Now hit it
with the "enter key" and you activate the "go to feature in word".
(Screen reader users)
*. Another way to open the Find and Replace dialog box is to press F5 .

Note: The Find and Replace dialog box appears with the Go To tab in front.
Here you can jump to a particular page in a document.

Step 2. To activate the "Go To feature, use any of the following ways; *.
Press keys "control + letter G".
*. Press key "F5".
*. Go to the edit menu and arrow down to "go to and hit the enter key.

*. Now depending on what you have used the result will be the same. You ill
be presented with a box asking you to type in a page number of the document
you wish to go too. We will while in the document which was attached to this
email use the keys "control + G" and type in the number 40 then press the
enter key. Word should now have brought you to page "40" of the document.
Hit the "escape key" to exit the "go to feature" and use the keys "insert +
page down from the pack of 6 keys" to have the status bar tell you which
page you are now on. It should read "page 40".
