Hi Vincent,
It sounds like you may have duplicate contacts.
You could try re-syncing the entire contact list, making sure firstly to do a
full backup of your iPhone.
Shout if you want instructions on how to achieve this.

yea they do update but for some reason old contact numbers arent being erased.

If you are using an apple device and you edit the contact details on your
iphone for example then the details should automatically update in icloud when
ur device next backs up
