Just thinking too that while I don't have a smart phone the idea of
streaming music from such and also it playing on an Alexa device too you
could then connect your Amazon device to a sound system or a good set of
headphones and the sound would be just great!
I often connect my Dot to my sound system but of course I'm only getting
say radio unless I subscribbe to Amazon Prime which I see is live now in
Ireland.

The only other way to play music through Alexa is to Bluetooth your phone to it, and then you’d have to do the music controlling bit from the phone, in other words, you can’t give Alexa commands to play music from a library that she doesn’t know of, such as Apple Music.

I'm still confused how are you playing music on your echo. When I ask Alexa to play my kind of music: i ask her for: Alexa play, streets of new york by the wolftones on spotify. she will repeat what i said and play this class song. Now my iPhone is sitting silent and i can still receive texts and calls during the playing of this song. I can control the spotify threw my echo: IE i can click on a song and it will play on my dot but even with this my phone is still operating as a phone. I did enjoy playing elmo and the muppets last night and freaked my sister out.
