Hi Jackie.
this is what is in help in pages
Check spelling
You can set Pages to flag spelling errors as you enter text. You can also
quickly look up the definition and suggested spellings of a word.
Check and correct spelling
Tap , then tap Settings.
Turn on Check Spelling, then tap Done.
Misspelt words are underlined in red.
Tap a misspelt word, then tap a suggested spelling.
Turn off spellchecking
Tap , then tap Settings.
Turn off Check Spelling.
If you don’t want words to be corrected as you type, turn off auto-correct. See
the task below for instructions.
Turn off auto-correct
When auto-correct is turned on in iOS Settings, misspelled and unknown words
are automatically corrected as you type. Turning off auto-correct applies not
only to Pages, but to other applications where you type text, such as Mail.
Tap Settings on the Home screen, then tap General.
Tap Keyboard, then turn off Auto-Correction.

Hi Jackie,
Another quick Google turned up this link:

Again, apologies for the long URL.
As far as I could gather, you should open Word on your iPad, navigate
your way to:
Settings > General > Keyboard
and make sure Check Spelling and Autocorrection are both on. The
latter will become a nuissance if you switch to another language,
allegedly.
HTH!
