Thanks.
Is this allowed by MS? Isn't stereo a mandatory channel format to be supported
by all devices? Would I have issues with WHQL tests when I run them?

The simplest option is to support only 5.1.

Subject: [wdmaudiodev] Default channel format for MsVAD driver
Hi Guys,
I am using a modified version of MsVAD driver that always exposes 5.1 channel
configuration. I want the MsVAD endpoint to be setup in 5.1 channel mode by
default after driver installation. Currently it is setup in stereo format.
How do I enable this from within MsVAD driver? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ambrish
