Btw, kmixer is history in Vista+.

So, I take it that the diagram shown here:

Is not valid anymore?.

Obviously you'll be able to use the hardware mixing capabilities of your audio solution with your custom software, but the built-in software won't take advantage of it.

Can you elaborate on this?

Btw, kmixer is history in Vista+. And there's no way of invoking a hardware mixer in Vista - the software mixer is burned into the graph building algorithm for the Vista audio engine. Obviously you'll be able to use the hardware mixing capabilities of your audio solution with your custom software, but the built-in software won't take advantage of it.
